Kaunas City buses with route numbers 00-068 are red, and Trolleybuses with routes 1 to 16 are green.

The city bus route 29 G is the right bus that takes you to and from Kaunas Airport. It has 11 bus stops at the metro, including its station and the city's railway station.

Buses are only available for pick-up and drop-off services at the ground transportation area of the airport.

Kaunas' public transportation system is managed by Kauno viešasis transportas (KVT) or Kaunas Public Transport. There are 14 trolley bus routes and 43 bus routes.

In 2017, Kauno autobusai began planning to cardinally upgrade the trolleybuses and buses park till the end of 2019.

The new Mercedes-Benz minibusses were introduced on September 2, 2019. The first new trolleybuses, Skoda 26Tr Solaris, were publicly introduced on September 30, 2019. In November 2019, Kauno autobusai signed a contract for 100 new model units of MAN Lion's City 12 hybrid electric buses, which replaced over half of the city's old buses.

Kaunas public transport has a mobile application Ziogas (Grasshopper), which allows to purchase and activate digital tickets using a smartphone. After reaching the E-ticket card's monthly fee of €28.00, the remaining trips are free of charge until the end of the month.
